FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the difference between a Natural Diamond and a Lab Diamond?
The only difference between natural and lab grown diamonds are how the diamonds are created. Natural diamonds form under the earth's surface through billions of years of heat and pressure. While lab diamonds can take 1-2 weeks to form in a lab through a synthetic process that mimics the same heat and pressure that happens under the earth's surface. Outside of that they both have the same chemical and physical compositions. Either way both have there pros and cons and you should always do your own research to see which one suits you best.
How long does it take to finish a custom piece?
Our average turnaround time is 2-4 weeks. That being said depending on the complexity of the piece it could take longer than 4 weeks or even shorter than 2. Either way we will give you a fairly accurate time scale on what it is your looking to have made.
What is the difference between 10, 14 and 18 karat gold?
The word Karat (not carat) refers to the purity of gold and is graded on a scale of x parts divided by 24. Another word for purity would be percentage. So 14 karat gold, for example, is 58.3% actual pure gold and the rest is other metals alloyed with the gold to give the metal specific properties and color. How i was able to get the number 58.3 is because i took 14 and divided it by 24. 24k is pure gold, 10k is 41.6%, 18k is 75% and so on.
Can you repurpose old jewelry?
Yes we can repurpose old jewelry and do it quite often. We will credit you on the materials and charge for labor or if any materials have to be added. Its one of our favorites, to take family heirlooms such as old rings and modernize them while keeping the stones or metal that hold sentimental value to our customers in the family to be passed down the next generation.
What is the difference between GIA an IGI certifications?
There really isn't much of a difference between GIA and IGI. GIA mostly deals with natural stones, where IGI deals mostly with lab grown. Both though, will certify lab and natural and there really isnt a difference between either one.
What is the best bling for my buck when it comes to diamond quality?
When it comes to diamonds you have what we call the 4 "Cs". The 4 "Cs" are Carat, Color, Clarity and Cut. Now there is a lot of misinformation about this and its always best for you to do your own research. But when it comes for the best bang for your buck, you want somewhere between a SI1-VS1 clarity, F-H color with an excellent cut and polish.
Is jewelry an investment?
This is one of my least favorite topics within this industry that i love. To keep it simple, buy jewelry pieces because you love the piece, do not buy it under any other pretenses. Gold and diamonds are NOT cheap so if you are going to spend money on it plan on having it for awhile and do it right so you won't have to do it twice.
